Last Friday, I made new friends, and had an odd but unforgettable night.
I haven't talked to them since, but it was an amazing night.
Would you like to hear about it?
Well, I hope you answered yes, because you are definitely about to.
Last Friday, I was out with a friend, and her friends, and we were at the local pub, just socializing. Most were drinking alcohol, but I was stickin' to my soda... Just kidding. It was water.
Anyways, My friend's boyfriend gets really upset, and has to leave. I, thinking on the positive side of life, assume he has a safe way home, and I don't give two thoughts about it.
Until my friend tells me that said guy's cousin has just attempted suicide, and he is now on his way out to Golden.
Now, normally, I would applaud the man for rushing to Golden, because Lord knows that's what I'd do. But I saw how much he had to drink. And no claps were coming from me.
So, instead we tried calling him and convincing him to pull over, telling him we would come pick him up, and take him there. I was sober, he was not, and I was in a much better condition to drive. But he wouldn't listen.
Finally, when he was about half-way to Banff, I had convinced him, that once he arrived in Banff he had to call us, and if we weren't there 20 minutes after he got there, he could leave, and we wouldn't bother him again. I thought I had success.
When I made that call, I was just past Calaway Park.
When I got the next call, it was not even 10 minutes later.
I literally had next to no time to get to Banff.
Do you think we made it?
5 MINUTES. 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM BANFF, AND HE CALLS US SAYING WE WERE TOO SLOW, AND HE WAS LEAVING. HE WASN'T GOING TO WAIT.
So we gave up. We surrendered. And we were fucking tired. It was 2 am, and I was beat.
So we turned around, and stopped in Canmore for coffee. Which is where I met my newfound friends.
I was waiting in the McDonald's drive-thru, when out of fucking nowhere, this crazy Australian guy comes up to my window, and says "HEYA, could you please do us a really big favour?"
I swear to God, I was so scared I could not even scream.
I looked at him, and said "OH MY FUCKING GOODNESS, PELASE DO NOT EVER SNEAK UP ON A PERSON LIKE THAT AGAIN."
He then profusely apologized, and explained to me that he and his friends were very hungry, and they couldn't get food, because the restaurant was closed, and they couldn't order through the drive-thru, because they didn't have a car, and they McDonald's staff were not allowed to serve them without a car.
So, then he ends his statement with "So, could you buy us food?"
And I look at him and go "Uh, I don't have any money, but if youve got the money, it's no problem at all for me to just drive up again and order for you."
Apparently, I am the nicest Canadian ever, ahahaha.
So, I ordered their food, and then parked out front, and we all got to chatting about why they were there and whatnot, and how they were enjoying Canada, and all that nice stuff.
Did I mention that it was cold out, so I let them sit in the back of my car?
I am so lucky they were not scary murderers. But instead, very nice Australians, and one New Zealander, who were just thankful for someone to stop in, and agree to order them food.
It was seriously one of the most bizarre nights of my life. But it was amazing. I hope I remember that night forever...
So, I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while, but that was a pretty sweet story, no?
And not one bit of it was made up. Awesome, eh?
